An antique .577 calibre percussion breech loading Mont Storm Patent Naval rifle and cutlas bayonet. The rifle signed Barnett, London. Circa 1858-1860.
The rifle has a sighted barrel, rifled with five shallow grooves retained by two barrel bands and with bayonet lug on the right hand side of the muzzle, 77.5cm. Calibrated folding adjustable back sight, tip up breech block signed Mont Storm patent. Signed border engraved flat lock with crown above tower on the tail. Three quarters stock, regulation brass punts including but plate numbered 79 on the tang. Sling loops and iron ramrod. Overall length, 122cm. The bayonet of a rare 1858 Enfield pattern, has broad slightly curved blade, double edged at the point and indistinctly stamped with Solingham makers name on the side of the forte. Steel guard, pommel with spring catch and numbered 78 and chequered leather grip in original black leather scabbard with linear engraved steel locket and chape.
